    The Geekdom Fund: Building San Antonio’s Tech Sector

This event will give you an opportunity to meet with like-minded professionals who serve the business owner community. The program will include speaker Michael Girdley, of the Geekdom Fund.

    Our Speaker:

    Michael Girdley, Geekdom Fund

    Michael is an entrepreneur and investor. He co-founded the Geekdom Fund, an early stage venture capital firm focusing on tech, where he is currently a managing director. Michael also sits on the boards of multiple companies including Codeup, Grok Interactive, Prospectify, RealCo and Alamo Fireworks.  Michael's published books on computer programming have been translated into four different languages.  In 2015, he was named Businessman of the Year by the San Antonio Business Journal. 


    The Exit Planning Exchange is a multi-disciplinary professional organization aimed at providing education and networking opportunities to those who serve private company owners. XPX members help owners build sustainable businesses and help them plan and execute successful exits.

    We invite attorneys, CPAs, financial planners, wealth managers, business coaches, consultants, benefits brokers, non-profits with estate planning, and other professionals to our inaugural Launch breakfast to learn more.

    XPX was founded eleven years ago in Boston, and has grown with chapters in Chicago, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and now San Antonio.

    Every deal requires “due diligence,’ which comes in many shapes and sizes. In this session, we will focus on financial due diligence and hear from an expert who routinely performs a “quality of earnings analysis,” on behalf of buyers and lending groups. He will share how they identify, measure and present the risks of an acquisition target to a buyer. We will also get guidance on the determination of sustainable free cash flow and the judgment to determine this critical number. Finally, we will discuss how this information is presented to the buyer and used by them in their negotiations and investment decision making.

    Joe Pellerite joined Baker Tilly in 2015. During the past 12 years, Joe has provided due diligence services for numerous acquisitions on behalf of buyers and sellers ranging from entrepreneurial management teams, venture capital / private equity funds and large multi-national corporations. In addition, Joe has provided post-acquisition integration support for certain transactions.  Joe also prepares short-term and long-term financial models for his clients, both for capital raising and operational monthly/weekly cash flow forecasting.

    Rick Kohr, CEO of Evergreen Advisors, sits down with Dr. Marco Chacón, Founder and Chairman of Paragon Bioservices, as he tells the story of Paragon and lessons he leaned along the way. Dr. Chacón came to the United States in 1967 as a 17-year-old foreign exchange student from Costa Rica. Since starting Paragon in 1990, Dr. Chacón has been finding ways to survive in business and continue to grow the company, a contract research and manufacturing organization focusing on pharmaceutical products, which is among the largest federal contractors in the Baltimore area. In Oct 2014, Paragon raised $13 million in a Series A preferred stock financing round from local Camden Partners and NewSpring Capital. Dr. Chacón's words to live by: Do not be afraid and live with the conviction that you will find a way forward.
